NO, We do know that mammograms can detect early changes in the breast tissue and microscopic calcification that ultrasounds can not see. However, we also know that mammograms can miss up to 50% of cancers in dense breast tissue and that over 40 % of women under the age of 50 have dense breast tissue. We strongly urge that you do self breast exams and to speak with your healthcare providers about what is best for you and your body in order make informed decisions about your care.
